important Winter weather reminder
With winter weather approaching, we're making sure we're prepared to keep our families and
scholars safe. We have information on winter clothing, recess, cancellations, Academy
communication, extended care and evening activities.
DROP OFF/PICK UP
Mr. Lehr and Mr. Willie do their very best to get the sidewalks cleared so scholars may enter the
building safely. There may, however, be slick spots. Remind your children at drop off to exit the car
carefully and watch where they are walking to avoid slipping. Teachers will remind scholars to walk
as they exit the building.
***8th Graders will not be required to be outside during the entire duration of drop-off but there will always be an adult outside to help.
Please make sure your children come to school dressed for the weather, with winter coats, hats and
gloves when necessary.
When the scholars arrive at school, we'll keep them inside. We make sure to keep them indoors for
recesses and physical education classes when temperatures or wind chill are 32 degrees or below
and the playground is not cleared of snow and ice. We will continue to monitor the temperatures and
wind chill index in case we need to make any further adjustments.
Although it is important that scholars be in school, safety is the most important concern of all. If
snow, ice or extreme cold make conditions unsafe, we will cancel school. Notification of school
closure will be sent out either the night before or the morning of before 6:00 AM. If you do not feel
safe transporting your child to school, please notify the school office. There are built in days for
inclement weather closings. If needed, though, we will make up the first snow day on Holy Thursday,
April 9, 2020. If needed, we will make up the next snow day on May 21, 2020.
If we cancel school, we will get you that information through text alerts, email, our website,
Facebook, Twitter and the local media. We are listed as St. Charles Borromeo Academy on the TV
CHILD CARE AND DISTRICT PROGRAMS
If we cancel school, the extended care program and early childhood programs are also closed.
Evening athletic practices, games and meetings are also cancelled.
Picture re-takes will be on Tuesday, November 26. This is a Mass day- dress uniform is encouraged but not required. We will also be taking an all school picture this day.

Please contact Benjamin if you are interested in more information or in going to see them in Gladstone. Attached are some pictures. Also completed during this first phase of construction is all new perimeter fencing and a new parking lot layout. Future plans include a building with team dressing rooms, concession stand and restrooms.
We are grateful to all of our wonderful donors, supporters and the volunteers who have made these projects a reality for our students and future Warriors.

Parents are always welcome and encouraged to attend Thursday Mass with their scholar. Please keep in mind that you must meet your scholar in the commons and you must sit behind the school community. Behavior expectations are the same of the scholar whether they are with their class or with their families. You are their primary example!
Page 9 of the handbook states: "Parents/Guardians are encouraged to attend All School Mass with their scholar. To form good habits and decrease distractions for the scholars, the following procedures must be followed:
▪ Meet scholar in the Commons by or before 8:55 a.m. Once scholars are seated in a pew, they will not be allowed to move and sit with family.
▪ Parents/Guardians who wish to sit with their scholar must sit behind the school community or to the side closest to the baptismal font. Guests may not sit in the classroom pews. "

Pto Meeting Notes 7-30-19
Registration is now open for fall sports of the 2019-2020 school year! Registration is currently open for Girls Volleyball (grades 3-8) and Boys and Girls Cross Country (grades 3-8).
If your son or daughter is interested in participating, please respond to Cory Winnike at firstname.lastname@example.org with their name, grade, sport interested in, and parental contact information. Our first and foremost priority is to have enough interest to have our students compete for SCBA, but, if we are unable to field a complete team, we will look at combining grades as well as partner with other schools.
We will be looking for volunteers to help coach our student athletes, so if you have any experience, know someone that does, or are willing to help out, please let Cory Winnike know as well.
funds request- library
Literacy is the core of a Classical Education. We have worked this summer to organize and update the school library. As our scholars learn to read and comprehend complex texts, think critically and synthesize information from multiple sources, they will become more willing to take academic risks and become life-long readers and learners. As we encourage our scholars to read, we need funds to purchase books to update our library to enable our students to have accessibility to a variety of books from the classics, current authors, and award winning books. In addition, we need to purchase leveled readers to help us ensure all of our scholars are successful readers and writers.
If you have any questions contact Elaine Nick at email@example.com. Thank you!

A Mother's Prayer for Teachers
Thank you for the gift of good teachers. Thank you for men and women willing to take on the responsibility of shaping the next generation of thinkers and doers.
As the school year starts, grant them strength and courage to face what lies ahead.
Spark their imaginations with ways to reach even the most difficult learner.
When the days are long and the challenges seem too many, grant them peace.
When things go smoothly, let them see Your guiding hand and give You thanks.
When they’re spending their money to make my child’s learning environment more successful and enjoyable, grant them treasures in Heaven.
Please, Lord, give them the grace they need to see You in every preschooler, grade schooler and high-schooler.
Help them respond to the individual needs of each child to the best of their ability.
Protect them from harm, but make them brave and knowledgeable in times of crisis.
May they find strength for the journey in each smile, hug, high five, and newly learned skill.
I know that their job is often a thankless and incredibly demanding one. Help me to support them the best that I can so that my child will know how much I value his/her education and the hard work of others.
Please bless the vocations of my child’s teachers, coaches, administrators, and school staff. Help them truly know what a difference they make in the lives of each child they encounter.
And at the end of each day, may they find rest and replenishment to rise and do it all again tomorrow.
Saint Mother Theodore Guerin, pray for them.
Saint Jean Baptist de la Salle, patron of teachers, pray for them.
In Our Lord Jesus’ name,
